Meet the Artist: Beth Williams and the Light of the Yarra Valley
There's a particular quality of light in the Yarra Valley — soft, golden, and unhurried — that seems to exist nowhere else in Australia. It's this light that Beth Williams has spent years chasing, capturing, and translating onto canvas.
A Painter Rooted in Place
Beth Williams is an Australian contemporary artist whose work is deeply connected to the landscapes of this country — from the rolling hills of Victoria to the wild, ancient beauty of Tasmania and Cradle Mountain. Her paintings don't simply depict a place — they evoke a feeling. The stillness of early morning. The warmth of afternoon sun on water. The quiet that settles over a valley before the world wakes up.
Her original oil painting Pink Sunrise at Little Lake, Yarra Glen is a perfect example of this gift. Painted in oil on canvas and framed in a recycled Messmate timber frame, it captures the blush of dawn reflected across still water — a moment so fleeting, most of us sleep through it.
How Beth Came to The Pink Gallery
I first met Beth about a year ago when she applied for The Pink Gallery's Group Show titled "Australia." From the moment I saw her work, I knew she was something special — and so did everyone else. Beth won People's Choice.
That win led to something truly memorable. In August, Beth held her own solo exhibition with The Pink Gallery — 17 original oil paintings documenting her travels to Tasmania and Cradle Mountain. The show ran for four weeks and was a complete sell out. Every single collector who found a piece was absolutely thrilled. Working with Beth was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. She is one of the kindest, most humble artists I've had the privilege of collaborating with — someone who genuinely has time for people and pours that warmth into everything she creates.
The Art of the Frame
One of the most beautiful and often overlooked features of Beth's work is the framing. Beth doesn't simply choose a frame off a shelf — she makes them. Together with a close friend, she sources recycled Messmate timber, then cuts, sands, and oils each piece by hand before crafting it into a frame. The result is something truly unique: a frame that is as considered and crafted as the painting it holds.
Why Collectors Love Her Work
Beth's paintings resonate with collectors who are drawn to the natural world — people who want their home to feel like a sanctuary. Her use of warm, luminous tones creates a sense of calm that works beautifully in living rooms, hallways, and studies alike. And knowing the story behind both the painting and the frame makes owning one of her works all the more meaningful.
Each piece is an original, one-of-a-kind work. Once it sells, it's gone.
